Effective online preparation for the 4th grade OLSAT & NNAT

TestPrep-Online offers preparation materials for the OLSAT and NNAT. Our bundle packs offer customizable practice sessions which include practice tests, video tutorials, hundreds of sample questions, and study guides. Our OLSAT and NNAT packs are comprehensive and will thoroughly prepare your child for a gifted and talented test.

About the OLSAT Level D

The OLSAT Level D consists of 64 questions, 32 verbal and 32 non-verbal. Students have 50 minutes to complete the test. The types of questions on the verbal section are: antonyms, sentence completion, sentence arrangement, arithmetic reasoning, logical selection, word/letter matrix, verbal analogies, and verbal classification. The types of questions on the non-verbal section are: figural classification, figural analogies, pattern matrix, figural series, number series, number inference, and number matrix. 3rd grade students are expected to be able to read by themselves, and therefore, the questions on the test are not read aloud, unlike the OLSAT A-C.

Join Our Teachers Membership!

With this membership, you will be able to create up to six separate practice accounts. This way, you can give each student an account of their own in which they can practice independently for their upcoming exam.

About the NNAT Level D

The NNAT Level D consists of 48 non-verbal questions which students have 30 minutes to complete. The test is meant to assess reasoning skills by measuring non-verbal abilities, and therefore includes no verbal instructions at all. For this reason, it is extra important to practice for, because being familiar with the types of non-verbal questions and being able to solve them with no need for instructions will raise your child's success rates.

The types of questions included on the NNAT Level D are: pattern completion, reasoning by analogy, serial reasoning, and spatial visualization. Practicing for these questions is beneficial when studying for the OLSAT, too.

How to Prepare for the OLSAT & NNAT Tests

As you can see, the OLSAT and NNAT tests are quite similar, and therefore, TestPrep-Online offers a bundle pack of both practice packs, so that your child gets extra practice. It is highly recommended to prepare for the OLSAT and NNAT tests, since both of them contain questions of types which are not practiced at school, and being familiar with those question types will increase your child's success rates. After purchasing our bundle pack, start with the test your child is about to take, make sure he or she solves all the questions, then move on to the other prep pack and have him or her practice questions of those types he or she found more challenging.

Your third-grader will require your help from time to time and it is important that you supervise his or her study habits. Keep in mind, though, that learning to work independently is also important. Our website offers a step-by-step explanation for each and every question on our practice pack; explain to your child why it is important to read the explanation thoroughly if he or she answers the question incorrectly, before calling you for help. It is also highly recommended to read the explanation even if your child answers the question correctly, since learning new ways to solve a problem and obtaining tools for future questions is very useful.

Good study habits are important and will help your child with every test he or she will study for in the future. Encourage your child to take short breaks, study at reasonable hours, not put off studying in favor of a fun activity, cover all the material, and try several times to solve a question before reading the explanation. Keep a positive attitude and encourage your child to stay optimistic. Confidence is particularly important in tests. From time to time, reflect your child's progress back to him or her: show them something new they now know how to do, show them what they have already covered, etc.

Another important part of studying is keeping a good, healthy lifestyle. Studies have shown that students who eat nutritious food, and especially a healthy breakfast, achieve better scores at school than those who do not. It is highly recommended not to skip breakfast, especially on the day of the test, and trying to avoid sweets while studying, since they make your child's concentration levels drop after a short while. Make sure your child also gets enough sleep: children need more sleep than adults, and a well-rested child will be more likely to achieve his or her full potential.
