NYC Gifted and Talented programs provide gifted students with an advanced education at an accelerated rate. Since gifted programs contain limited spots, they utilize NYC Gifted and Talented Assessments to determine eligibility for these programs. This test is offered in a majority of New York City's 32 districts, and is generally used as an admissions tool for gifted programs. The NYC Gifted and Talented Test Level B is generally administered to students in 1st Grade, for entry into 2nd grade, and is composed of a verbal section from the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT), and a nonverbal section made up of questions from the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT).
Placing into an NYC Gifted and Talented program has become increasingly difficult. Spots in gifted programs are limited and competition for these coveted seats has increased over the years. To even be considered eligible for these programs, children needed to at least score in the 97th percentile. Under these current, competitive circumstances, preparing for the NYC Gifted and Talented Test has become essential. To help, TestPrep-Online offers a variety of NYC G&T practice packs designed to match testing conditions and content.
The NYC Gifted and Talented Test Level B contains 30 questions from the OLSAT, and 48 questions from the NNAT. The test uses verbal questions from the OLSAT and nonverbal questions from the NNAT. The verbal and nonverbal sections of the test are weighted equally, with each accounting for half of the total test score. All questions on the test are multiple choice, with the verbal questions being read aloud. See the table below for the specific question types used on the Level B NYC Gifted and Talented Test.
When practicing for the NYC G&T Level B, the instructions of the verbal questions should be read aloud (one time) to the child, as is done on the actual test. For your convenience, TestPrep-Online currently provides audio instructions for the Following Directions, Aural Reasoning, and Arithmetic Reasoning.
