About the 6th Grade STAAR Test

  • Total Points: 56 (including 1-point, 2-point, and extended constructed responses) 

Reporting Categories

Reading:

  • Emphasizes comprehension, main ideas, themes, and author’s purpose. 
  • Accounts for 26–28 questions and 28–30 points. 

Writing: 

  • Involves revising and editing passages for clarity, grammar, and organization.

  • Accounts for 17–19 questions and 26–28 points.

Computations and Algebraic Relationships: 

  • Focuses on solving equations, inequalities, and algebraic expressions. 
  • Accounts for 13–15 questions and 14–19 points.
