About Placement Tests
Nearly all institutions of higher education require some sort of placement test. The goal of these placement tests is to properly place students, regardless of status (new student, returning student, etc.), in the appropriate level class. About the ACCUPLACER
The ACCUPLACER is an increasingly popular test used across the United States to assess college-level math and English language abilities. This multiple choice, computer-based test is used as part of the enrollment process at hundreds of colleges and universities across the country. An expository essay is also included. Each section of the ACCUPLACER is scored on a scale of 20 to 120. There is no set passing score. Rather, each college, university, or other educational institution uses English and math scores to determine which courses a student must take to fulfill basic and degree-specific requirements.
The ACCUPLACER Math test consists of the following sections: Arithmetic, College-Level Math, and Elementary Algebra.
The ACCUPLACER English test consists of the following sections: Reading Comprehension, Sentence Skills, and Essay.
The ACCUPLACER is an untimed test, with approximately 12-40 questions on each section. It usually takes about 1.5-2 hours to complete.
Why Prepare for Placement Tests?
