The CogAT 10 test is divided into different sections known as batteries: Verbal battery, Nonverbal battery, and Quantitative battery. These batteries feature the following topics: Picture/Verbal analogies, Sentence Completion, Picture/Verbal Classification, Number Analogies, Number Series, Number Puzzles, Figure Matrices, Figure Classification, and Paper Folding. Each of these subtopics help develop a different skill and it is important to see all the different types of questions, their solutions, and the explanations to avoid having any surprises the day of the test.
The primary levels of the CogAT focus more on picture analogies and picture classification instead of their verbal equivalents. This is to make the questions more intuitive and easier to solve for children that are still learning to read.
Choose the picture that belongs with the bottom picture in the same way the pictures on top belong together.

The correct answer is 2.
In the top row, the outer shape in the left frame becomes the inner shape in the right frame, while the inner shape in the left frame becomes the outer shape in the right frame. The middle shape remains the same. Furthermore all the shapes swap colors (from black to grey or from grey to black).
In the bottom row we should have the same relationship, as the outer shape in the left frame is a hexagon, the inner shape in the right frame should also be a hexagon, we can eliminate the 4th answer choice as the inner-most shape it contains is a pentagon and not a hexagon. We can also eliminate the 3rd answer choice as it is missing the middle shape. Finally we can eliminate the 1st and 5th choices because not all the shapes swapped colors.
We are left with the 2nd choice as the only correct answer.

The correct answer is 4.
In this question all three figures are orange circles each of which contains the following three shapes: a yellow diamond, triangle and circle. The only answer choice that is like this is the 4th choice. The 1st choice is incorrect as it contains two diamonds and no triangle. The 2nd and 3rd choices are incorrect as they contain trapezoids instead of triangles. Finally, the 5th choice is incorrect as it contains four shapes instead of three (a trapezoid in addition to all of the other shapes).
Therefore, the 4th choice is the correct answer.
[36 → 9] [60 → 15] [72 → ?]
Choose the number that completes the third pair so that it demonstrates the same relationship as the first two pairs.

Correct!
The correct answer is 18.
Look at the numbers in the first pair and try to find the rule they follow.
How do we get from 36 to 9?
We see that if we divide the first number by 4, we get the second number:
36 ÷ 4 = 9.
Does this rule work for the second pair, as well?
When we divide 60 by 4, we get 15:
60 ÷ 4 = 15.
The rule "divide the first number by 4 to get the second" works in both pairs, so in the next pair we should also divide by 4:
72 ÷ 4 = 18.
Therefore, 18 is the correct answer.

The correct answer is 5.
In this series, every number is larger than the number before it by 1.
The pattern is: +1, +1, +1, ...
The last number in this series is 4, the next number in the series should be larger than 4 by 1.
4 + 1 = 5
Therefore, 5 is the correct answer.
21 = ? × 3

The correct answer is 7.
The first thing to notice when solving this type of question is that both sides of the equation must be equal. Since we are trying to solve for the '?', we must get it by itself on one side of the equation. To do this, we must divide the right side of the equation by 3, and since both sides of the equation must be equal, we must also divide the left side of the equation by 3.
21 = ? x 3
3 3
On the right side of the equation, we have our '?' by itself. We now have:
21 = ?
3
This means that ? = 7.
The words in the first pair are related in a certain way. Choose the word that completes the second pair so that the words are related in the same way.

The first three words go together in that they are all synonyms. This means that the correct answer will be a synonym as well and have the same meaning as the words brave, bold and courageous. This makes heroic the correct answer.
If you are looking for a(n) _____ answer, it is wise not to _____.
Wrong

The correct answer is accurate .. approximate.
"Accurate" means exact and "approximate" means close in value or amount but not precise.
The structure of this sentence suggests that the two correct words that will complete the sentence will have to be antonyms or close opposites. "Accurate" and "approximate" fit this criterion. Additionally, you can solve this question by inserting the word pairs to see which one creates a logical sentence.
There are two norms used by the CogAT when scoring results. One of the norms, the age norm, is used to compare the performance in relation to other children of the same age. The CogAT also returns a raw score, which is later transformed into a Standard Age Score (also known as SAS).
