Placement Test Structure at LTC
The ACCUPLACER test is a multiple-choice, computer-based placement test. ACCUPLACER is a computer adaptive test, which means when you answer a question correctly the next question gets harder, and when you answer a question incorrectly the next question gets easier. You are not allowed to bring a calculator to your ACCUPLACER test, but a calculator is provided on-screen for some questions. The primary subjects assessed on this test are reading, writing, and math. Remember that your score on this test determines the courses you can take as an incoming LTC student. To make your college education as efficient as possible, in terms of time and money, it is important to do your best on this exam and place into the highest level of courses that match your abilities. At Lakeshore Technical College, the ACCUPLACER placement test contains six sections:
You will be tested on the basics of each topic, and your scores will be reported separately for each topic. Usually, the ACCUPLACER Math and English sections are considered separately, and your course placement will be determined by your scores on each section. The exam is not timed, and usually takes between 1.5 and 2 hours to complete.
