Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana ACCUPLACER Test
The Ivy Tech Community College offers over 150 programs across 45 campuses throughout the state of Indiana. Over 160,000 students attend Ivy Tech every year. The four main departments within the school system are health, business and public services, technology, and computing and informatics. No matter which field holds your interest, as an incoming student you will be obliged to take a placement test if you meet the following criteria:
- You do not have an ACT, SAT, or PSAT score.
- You do not have college credit from previous courses.
- You do not have a cumulative high school GPA that meets the requirement for the program you are applying to.
In order to register for courses, you must achieve a passing score on the Ivy Tech placement test. The passing threshold varies in accordance with the individual requirements of specific college-level courses.

Ivy Tech Placement Test Practice
Ivy Tech’s ACCUPLACER is a computer-based, adaptive test. "Adaptive" simply means that the questions you are given are dependent on whether you answered your previous question correctly or not. This in effect affects the difficulty of the following questions.
ACCUPLACER testing at Ivy Tech includes Reading Comprehension, Sentence Skills, and the WritePlacer Essay. Students are also required to take the Elementary Algebra, College-Level Math, and Arithmetic sections of the ACCUPLACER. This test is the most common way for Ivy Tech students to demonstrate their readiness for college-level coursework. The test usually takes up to 3 hours to complete. With the exception of the ACCUPLACER essay section, the ACCUPLACER Test is untimed, so you can take as much time as you need to complete the test. Ivy Tech recommends you allow three hours to take the test.

The higher your score on the ACCUPLACER Test, the fewer courses you will need to take in order to obtain your certificate or degree. There is no penalty for wrong answers, so make sure to answer every question, even if you need to guess. Ivy Tech ACCUPLACER scores are valid for up to four years after taking the test.
